Patio Transformation......Part II

Construction has begun!!  Part I of our patio transformation was fairly simple... Now,  Part II-- constructing the bench seating for our patio--is underway! 


Mr. V!ck has been sawing and nailing and screwing like a madman! SUPER EXCITING!!

The bench is set low, which will (eventually) have cushions, for more lounge-y seating

These wood slats will enclose the entire bench box and be stained the same color as the swing.

 Here's what we have left to do:  

~install the plywood for seating;

~enclose the box with wooden slats;

~install the overhead beam across the back;

~stain the entire thing and; 

~add cushions and throw pillows. 

And after all that, we'll add a few decorative elements (lighting, sun shades, etc) to complete the project.

I was also able to enjoy the cooler my dad built for us. After drenching the wooden box in water sealant and "testing out" the cooler itself, I am very satisfied with it!! And it keeps the beer super cold!

 I can't wait until everything is complete and we're able to enjoy our "outdoor room"

In the summertime, when the weather is hott...

...there are certain summer essentials needed to survive. Let's face it, we don't all live by the beach or in a dry, humidity-free climate.

For us southern gals, it takes a little more effort to keep it looking fresh during the sweltering spring/summer/fall months. {Yes people, it only gets cold here in January ;) }

So, in keeping with summer spirit, I've compiled a list of must-have essentials and a little tune to getcha going....enjoy.

#1: Mosquito Repellent- because there is no freaking possible way to survive Louisiana summer without it!

{ThermaCell....ohemgeee, this is the BEST product on the market for mosquitos. Simply turn it on, set it down and BOOM- no more bugs, no odor, no toxic fumes, no greasy mess on your skin!}

#2:  BRONZER-- Hollaaaa!  Many, like Snooky and myself, prefer to go the fake bake route and get our tan from a can. Here are some great products I found at Sephora to help you get that natural summer glow minus those bad rays, premature wrinkles and oompa-loopa orange.

 {This fabulous little product, by Tarina Tarantino, is exactly what you need to add dazzling shimmer to bare shoulders, legs, hair, and the décolleté.  Sparklicity Bronze Shimmer Dust}

 

 

{Sunscreen, for those of you who choose to ignore the warnings about skin cancer. I understand you want to get a natural tan, so try something with an SPF of 30... you'll get a glow without too much burn.}

*disclaimer: I'm no Dermatologist, so please don't sue my ass after using this stuff and getting burned*

#3: LIQUIDS!! Keep it flowin, y'all. There's nothing like a yummy cocktail by the pool or an ice cold brew with your crawfish. But let's not forget to hydrate with a widdle wattah. {man, I don't know but I'm feelin' extra coonass in my post today ;)  }

As I sit a pour over Pinterest on the daily, I've noticed a trend in some of the items I pin... Clearly I'm drawn to certain things, for whatever reason. maybe because they're pretty, or sparkly, or organic and natural.  So I just want to share with you some of my favorite finds on my Pinterest.

Gray: {not a color but a value of luminous intensity (amount of light emitted by a light source) that the perception by the human eye is between the white & black.}

Gray is such a great foundation color, and will compliment any accent. My accent color of choice avec gris is turquoise,yellow & navy...

Something else I truly love... les fleurs.  Rarely will you enter my household and not find fresh cut blooms. Flower arrangements and plants are an easy {and relatively inexpensive} way to add interest or spark to a drab room.  And for parties, they are the finishing touch to a perfect table scape...

Another love: All things Ornate:

This, I suppose, it about as girlie as I get...all in the form of ornate carving and architecture

Finally, my last {current} love, thank to Pinterest... Wood: Whether it's carved, painted, treated, raw, old, new...it's always so beautiful. And organic. And natural....hmmmm

sleeping beauty...

So, as part of my summer bucket list (as seen on Lola Inspired a few weeks back) I've decided that I want to DIY a headboard for our master bedroom.

I have all the time and skill needed to create this little beauty, but I just can't seem to make up my mind as to what style of headboard I want. Here's what I DO know:

I want a simple rectangle, or as they say, 'Oxford'

Also, I definitely want White (P)Leather

 

Now I need to decide what style I'd like to have. There are so many options. I could go with a tufted look:

{I know this will probably take a lot more time and elbow grease to create, but they're just so fab!}

Another option would be to have smooth fabric with a nailhead trim like this:

 Then again, a framed headboard could be a possibility as well...

 I just can't make up my mind....guess I'll have to consult with Mr. V!ck on this one...after all, he sleeps there too ;)
