consumer. reports.

So I never do this....

Brag about a household product, I mean. But, for this, I have to make an exception...

First things first, I had been noticing that my laundry, although clean, did not have that clean fresh smell that (my mama's) laundry  normally has. Boo! And I feel like I use more than enough detergent to produce some kind of fresh scent. Right?

Anywho, I can't actually remember how I heard about this product...maybe one of the gazillion commercials that run on Bravo between segments of RHWofNJ, but, as I made my way down the detergent aisle at WalMart, I came across this stuff and had to check it out:

"Introducing an entirely new way to freshen your laundry. Purex Crystals are 92% natural crystals that go in at the start of the wash, so they spend more time with your laundry infusing them with long-lasting freshness."

These crystals come in 3 different scents to choose from: Tropical Splash, Lavender and Fresh Spring Waters (which is the scent I went with)

So I simply dropped a capful of these tiny Purex Crystals into a load of wash (as the drum was filling up for the wash cycle--not rinse cycle) and let them do their thing! 1 load later, I had the best smelling laundry. EVER.

AND! Get this! It also serves as a fabric softener. HOLLLLA!

This gets me really excited because the shirt I am wearing right now smells so wonderful and clean and is super soft (not crunchy and stiff like usual)!

There are other similar products on the market, like Downy UNSTOPABLES (which I have not tried) but may do the job just as well. Whichever you choose, it's worth every penny to have NO FUSS soft, fresh smelling laundry!

Try it for yourself!

it's almost time!...

BRAAAAAAINS!

This is the time of year when I start getting excited about the holidays and {duh} holiday décor.  This cycle usually begins sometime in September, after we’ve experienced out first ‘cool’ day of the season. Thoughts of devilish dining table displays and festive fall fireplaces set me into Martha-mode.  Ridiculous as it may seem to some, nothing makes me happier than having a decorated holiday home.

October brings out my darker side, which has lead to arguments with Mr. V!ck about the possibility of Voodoo décor making our {positive, balanced} home susceptible to evil, negative energy.

What do you expect? He believes in Aliens too…

OK, so no voodoo dolls or salt in the doorway.  Fine.  I’ll scratch the Voodoo idea…this year.

Instead I’ve taken Dr. Frankenstein as my inspiration this October.
"The dissecting-room and the slaughter-house furnished many of my materials"
(from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein)

Take that and run with it!

My dining table will display a collection of bones, bugs, body parts, and whatever else  I can think of that WILL NOT conjure up evil spirits, for Mr. V!ck’s sake ;)

Here's a sneak peak:

It's a work-in-progess, but I promise it'll all be done in time for our Halloween Party! Stay tuned for more!

Look what I made!!....

Our usual "Wasted Wednesday" was a widdle different this week...(don't get me wrong, there were daiquiris involved *wink )

Not only did I leave work early today, which Made.My.Day. but I spent my entire evening CRAFTING!!

Laugh all you want, but we (Mrs. Silli and I) did the damn thang, thanks to the skill and craftiness (and patience) of the lovely Mrs. Nichols!

I have only one word for you : BOOM!

Yeah....I did that.

Although Mrs. Silli didn't complete her project, I'm sure once she does, it'll be fabulous and you'll be able to see it here...

I plan to create another wreath for Christmas and I promise to document each step for a DIY tutorial

Thoughts?

Once upon a Halloween....

Looking back over the years at all the Halloweens I've spent with Mr. V!ck, it's funny to see all the costumes we've worn.  Clearly, some guises were better than others. DON'T JUDGE!

{2002}

This is the first time Mr. V!ck and I ever hung out <3

{2003}

Vampires? Really?....HALLOWEEN FAIL

{2004}
the Texas Oil Tycoon
and his gold-digging wife?
what a lovely couple

{2005}
GARFIELD STREEEEEEET with my pal!!

{2006}
This year was, by far, Mr. V!ck's best costume idea. And I can't find the pic :(  Bummer
He was dressed as Nacho Libre --
I can't even begin to tell you how funny it was! And he spoke in a Hispanic accent all night.

I was a Black Widow Spider. My 8 legs each held a beer. Brilliant!

{2007}
Wednesday Addams

and her traila trash baby daddy?
Bahaha...he actually looked pretty sexy in that cut-sleeve western shirt

{2008}
this is when my peacock obsession began...

{2009}
I was a devilish lil thang for work
and Margaret McPoyle later on...
I've never gotten the stank eye so much in my life
the Geico Caveman
It was quite an interesting night to say the least...

I can't wait to see all the awesome costumes at our party!

What were some of your best/worst Halloween costumes?

'ello Lovahs!

Forgive me for not having posted much lately... I've been a very busy girl, but I appreciate you sticking around

Most of my time has been spent enjoying the outdoors. I must say, I have {very much} been enjoying my new patio space. And now that Fall is peeking, (not peaking—it’s still hot as balls here) I’ve been able to take advantage of the few days of nice cool temps we’ve had.

As always, Thursday the gals and I got together for Project Runway night. SHOUT OUT to Anthony Ryan Auld for kicking ass on PR this season!

[photo courtesy of FashionWeekNola.com}

These nights consists of the yooj  (as in ‘usual’): gal-pals, wine, snacks, gossip, judgment, marriage-talk and fashion.
Speaking of fashion, nothing gets me more excited than FALL FASHION!  Or anything FALL for that matter…

This season I’ve been shopping around and putting together some pretty fantastic pieces.
What’s funny is how I get all excited about these new outfits, yet, where the hell would I wear these? On weekends, my wardrobe consists of LSU or Saints gear. And let’s be real….here is what I look like for work

Every. Day.

{gross! hack! this photo is awful!}

But enough about my daily fashion mishaps. Here’s what I’d love to be wearing:

{white blazers}
[Zara jacket as seen on Chictopia.com]

BROKEN RULE #1: yes, I wear white after labor day

{scarves and riding boots}
[ via Tumblr ]

I'm really loving brown leather right now

{accessories}
[ via skinny. ]
see how this simple sweater dress is 'dressed up' with a scarf and belt.
BROKEN RULE #2: black and brown DO go together

{moto jacket}
[Muubaa Jacket Rebel]
because it makes you look badass.

 {denim}
yes, you would be the hottest chick on the farm in this.

 {wedges}
I wear these year-round:  peep toe or closed, sandal or bootie.

I really should make an attempt to dress well and look nice on the daily, but alas,
I love sleep waaay too much to get up that early.

Luckily, the holidays are approaching....maybe then I'll get to wear my new outfits!

HAPPY HUMP DAY LOVELIES!

xoxo,
Mrs. V!ck
