just a little something....

I know what you're thinking....what the hell?!? where have you been?

February is almost over and I haven't posted anything worth reading in a while. Hell, I haven't even posted the finished product of our master bath redo. Terrible! I know!  I'm slacking. Big time. So here's what's up....

Things are gonna be a-changin' 'round here, cuz I'm, preggers (what am I typing? I despise that word), with child!

Yep, bebe on the way in T-minus 6 months! August 21st, to be exact. Mr. V!ck and I have been knowing since before Christmas, which means I'm 15 weeks! He's pretty stoked, that proud papa! Although it took me a little while, I am (now) super excited about becoming a mama.  I can't wait to meet our little offspring!

Boy or Girl?

Well, we haven't found out yet....and we're not sure we want to. I think it's kind of exciting not knowing, and being surprised in the end. Don't you? Then again, we'll see when the time comes for Doc to give us the news if we choose to find out or not...

Til then, I'll be dreaming of neutral-ish baby nurseries- free of sterotypical blues and {gag} pinks! I have been diggin the coral and aqua color combo. And yellow and gray, of course.

Check out these 2 nursery designs I found on {Lay Baby Lay}

Don't you just love love love them?! I do.
I can't wait to get started on 'widdle V!ck's' room.

xoxo,
Mama V!ck

Farewell Furry Friend

He had many names, but “Boss” is the one that stuck…

His playful, curious puppy life was taken much too soon.

As angry and heart-broken as I am, I wanted to share with you how wonderful our widdle Boss-hoss was.

Boss came into our lives on Mothers’ Day last year (5-8-11). Mr. V!ck was supposed to go to the store for ice cream. Instead, he came back with, um, chocolate! To our best knowledge (and many outside opinions) he was part chocolate lab and part pit. No one knows for certain, but he sure was a cutie! No bigger than a shoe (at first), with big blue eyes, Boss melted our hearts.

[and to think we were going to give him away. HA!]

Eventually, those blue eyes turned an intense gold color. And his clumsy puppy body grew into a strong muscular (still kinda clumsy) dog. But still, he had some growing to do…years of growing…

Boss loved to be the in water

and going to the dog park.

He liked playing with brother and sister

and taking doggie naps....often on the hammock

His tail was like a whip-always smacking into things!

He ate everything in sight, from paint brushes to electrical cords to beer cans-
I know it sounds like we have a dump of a back yard, but honestly, I don’t know where he got half this stuff.

And by no means should one leave an alcoholic beverage unattended.

He could leap super high.

He had a few [store bought/made for dogs] toys but his favorite was a log. Yes, a LOG. He proudly pranced around the yard with it in his mouth (bigger than his face) and would drop it at (or ON- ouch) your feet to play fetch.

Boss was supposed to be around for a while; to watch our children grow up and grow old with us. We had big plans for Boss-man. He was going to be in our family forever.

Despite the [occasional] destructive behavior, he was a great dog. “Man’s best friend”, that’s what Boss was.
He was smart, loyal and he loved us. What more could you want from a furry friend?

Hopefully, Boss is in puppy heaven now…swimming all day and chewing on God’s furniture. I know a couple little angels up there that would love the companionship of a dog like Boss.

Rest in peace, little friend.

VD! VD! VD!...

NO, I don't mean venereal disease....

I mean Valentine's Day!

" Every February 14, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint, and where did these traditions come from? Find out about the history of this centuries-old holiday, from ancient Roman rituals to the customs of Victorian England." [HISTORY.COM]

If you want to learn more about this ancient, romantic holiday, click here

Valentine's Day is the [overly-commercialized] day when happy couples celebrate their love, when besties celebrate their friendship, when florists and greeting card companies make a ton of money, when every decent restaurant in town gets booked up with reservations... you get my point.

Ahh, Valentine's Day.

Maybe you're like me and find long-stemmed roses and heart-shaped chocolates overrated and cliche'...? No?
[ I won't lie, I do love those heart shaped phrase candies ;-) ]

Nevertheless, each year on this day, I try not to get all caught up in Cupid madness. K.I.S.S., as they say: [keep it simple, stupid], and do for your special someone what you think [or know] they would appreciate.

One of my sweetest Valentine memories go back as far as 3rd grade, when *the boy I had a crush on* gave me a potted violet. He even painted my name on the flower pot. guess he had a crush on me too.

In middle school, my *boyfriend* got me Green Day's Dookie album on cassette (remember that one?) for Valentine's day. What a guy! LOL. Seriously, I thought it was the best VD gift ever! But I still wouldn't kiss him ;-)

Of course, my best Valentine memories have been with my lovie, Mr. V!ck...

Once, way back when we first started dating, he gave me tulips [my absolute favs] and strung up a clothes line in my back yard to hang laundry (and possibly to block my nosy neighbor's view). It was perfect!

Another time, we took a horseback ride and picnicked along the river, [he had never ridden a horse before, so that was interesting, to say the least....especially after all the bubbly].

Last year, we had a simple dinner then treated ourselves to yummy frozen yogurt. Mmmmm, can't beat that!

Over-priced bouquets and jewelry are never part of my V-Day celebrations. It's always something more intimate and personal. Here are some of my personal favs, and something any of you could do for your special someone:

~Start the day off with a homemade breakfast pour deux

~Or, if your mornings are too crunched for breakfast, why not whip up a romantic dinner?

complete with his/her favorite sweet treat...

And if you're terrible in the kitchen....you can always get cooking somewhere else... have a picnic with a bottle of wine and your favorite [store-bought] sweets.

Lastly, if all else fails, just leave him/her a lovely, straight-from-the-heart note

What are some of your best Valentine's Day memories? Your worst? Tell me about them!

And I hope everyone has a wonderful, loving, romantic February 14th!

xoxo,
Mrs. V!ck

My apologies....

...to any of you who may have received emails today with old posts.

This morning I was organizing my older posts and labeling each by category, hoping to make searching by topic easier for my readers.

Apparently in doing so, it has re-submitted each one and emailed them to everyone.

oopsie :)

I promise there will be NEW posts coming soon. Bet on it!

In the mean time, have a wonderful day!

Master Bath renov....Pt.III

As you may know, Mr. V!ck and I have been working our little butts off on renovating our master bathroom for the last few weeks

[see here and here]

At this point, we are about 75% complete with our project...

The walls are painted

The wainscot is hung

The floorboards are installed

The trim is in place

[nothing a little caulk and paint won't fix]

So what's left, you ask?

Well, the crown molding around the top perimeter needs to be installed [it's only partially done], as well as the light sconces that will flank both sides of the vanity mirror [hints the holes on the wall].

I was thinking something like this:

What do you think? I need your feedback! These are not easy decisions to make

And of course, the toilet needs to be put back and the new vanity installed:

Lastly, a few finishing touches [in the form of storage baskets, brushed nickel towel racks and accessories and art!] and our master bath project will be complete!!

Please stay tuned to see the end result!!

xoxo,
Mrs. V!ck
